The Atlas® Heavy Duty Adapter Kit supports the weight of the wheel with the backing plate rather than the unsupported end of the balancer's shaft. The excessive weight of Bus/RV/Semi Truck Wheels, combined with Lug Centric applications that are now more popular on heavy duty vehicles can cause the shaft to wobble. A balanced wheel, removed and reinstalled on the same balancer, can show an unbalance variation in excess of 10oz. This is because the balancer cannot duplicate the wobble of the shaft due to the center bore of a lugcentric wheel being imperfect since the lug holes are used for wheel centering. This adapter kit allows these types of wheels to be mounted to the balancer in the same way they are mounted on the vehicle. This assures a minimum of variance and maximizes repeatability.
This adapter kit will work with most 8 and 10 lug wheels. the studs used by the kit are not designed to work with many thick-walled alloy wheels, such as Alcoa. The kit does not work with Trilex or Dayton wheels.
This Kit includes two star plates, 5 removable studs and a backing plate. The cones and wing nut needed are standard with the Atlas® WBT-210 wheel balancer and are designed to be used in unison with this kit.
